Seoul Ttareungi public bike: day pass prices, overtime fees and how visitors pay

Numbers checked against the official source on 2026-10-19

A visitor can rent a Seoul Ttareungi bike without joining, using a day pass: ₩1,000 for 1 hour, ₩2,000 for 2 hours or ₩3,000 for 3 hours per rental. The pass lasts for the day: you can rent again and again for 24 hours from your first rental, as long as each ride is returned within the pass's hour limit. If you keep the bike longer, the extra charge is ₩200 for every 5 minutes over. Foreign tourists pay with a credit card issued outside Korea or a Discover Seoul Pass voucher.

Members also have 7-, 30-, 180- and 365-day passes. The 7-day pass is ₩3,000 (1-hour) or ₩4,000 (2-hour); the 365-day pass is ₩30,000 or ₩40,000. These need an account, so most short visits will use the day pass.

How the day pass works

Overtime charge

If you do not return the bike within the pass's time, the extra is ₩200 per 5 minutes over. The charge goes to the payment method you used to buy the pass, or to an extra-charge payment method you set. If you leave it unpaid you cannot rent again, and a non-member also has to pay it to keep using the bikes. Discounts do not apply to the extra charge.

Example (derived arithmetic): returning a bike 15 minutes late costs 3 × ₩200 = ₩600 on top of the pass. The page does not say how a partial 5-minute block is charged, so this example uses a whole number of blocks.

Four hours means "stolen". If a bike is not returned within 4 hours of the rental, the page says it is treated as stolen and the police are notified. If you cannot return it, call the operations center on 1599-0120.

How a visitor rents, step by step

  1. Install the Seoul Bike (Ttareungi) app. On the start screen choose Non-Member (or "Foreigner" to see the English pages; Chinese and Japanese are also available).
  2. Choose a pass and pay. Credit cards must be issued in a country other than Korea. If you pay with a Discover Seoul Pass voucher, only one type of pass can be bought; enter the voucher number.
  3. Find a station on the map, pick a bike and tap Rent, then scan the QR code under the bike saddle. The rental starts when the locking lever is raised.
  4. Return the bike to any Ttareungi rental station and push the locking lever all the way down. Check the app for the return confirmation message.
  5. For a short stop, park where you do not block traffic, push the lever down and use "Unlock Temporarily" in the app to continue.
Where the official pages disagree. The how-to page for non-members says a non-member can choose a 1-hour or 2-hour day pass. The fee table lists 1-, 2- and 3-hour day passes for both members and non-members, and shows Discover Pass as a payment option only in the non-member column. If the 3-hour pass does not appear for you in the app as a non-member, the how-to page is the one that matches.

Common questions

Can I use a Korean-language payment app?

The fee table lists mobile phone payment, credit card, PAYCO, KakaoPay and Zero Pay as payment methods, and Discover Pass (foreigners only). For tourists the how-to page restricts credit cards to ones issued outside Korea.

Is the page in English?

The fee tables and rules are published in Korean on bikeseoul.com, which has an English menu; the app has an English mode for foreigners. This page translates the Korean text.

The official pages print no revision date; they were read on 2026-10-19. Not covered here: group tickets, transfer mileage for the 365-day pass, and refund rules for members' multi-day passes.
