Seoul taxi fares: meter rates, night surcharge and airport fixed fares
Numbers checked against the official source on 2026-10-19
A regular Seoul sedan taxi starts at ₩4,800 for the first 1.6 km, then adds ₩100 for every 131 m driven (or every 30 seconds when the car is slow). From 10 PM to 4 AM the meter runs higher: the base rises to ₩5,800 or ₩6,700 depending on the hour. Fares from Incheon Airport to central Seoul are set by zone, from ₩70,000 to ₩95,000 for a sedan.

Rules the page lists for all metered rides
- Sedan, slow traffic: "partial simultaneous calculation of distance and time" applies below 15.72 km/h.
- SUV, van and deluxe, slow traffic: "reciprocal calculation": distance is charged only at 15.10 km/h or faster, and time only below 15.10 km/h.
- Outside city limits: a 20% surcharge, applied automatically after the taxi leaves the city limits (the page names the Gwangmyeong Integrated Business Area and Joint Business Areas, including Wirye New Town). Incheon Joint Business Area has different standards; the page gives 02-2133-2317 for questions.
- Late night: the page lists surcharges of 20% (10 PM–11 PM), 40% (11 PM–2 AM) and 20% (2 AM–4 AM) for sedans, and 20% (10 PM–4 AM) for SUV, van and deluxe. Late-night rides outside city limits can reach up to 60% (sedan) or up to 40% (SUV, van, deluxe).
- Rounding: the final metered fare is rounded to the ₩10 unit.
- Tolls: the actual toll is collected when the taxi passes a toll gate at the passenger's request.
- Meter only: all taxis must charge only by the meter, except a separate fare plan approved by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Our reading, not stated on the page: the night rows already look like the surcharge built in (₩4,800 plus 20% is ₩5,760, and ₩5,800 is listed; plus 40% is ₩6,720, and ₩6,700 is listed). We therefore do not add the late-night percentage on top of the night rows. The outside-city surcharge is a separate 20%.
Worked examples (sedan, free-flowing traffic)
These use only the distance fare, which is what you pay when the car stays above the slow-traffic speed. The page does not say how the meter treats a partial 131 m step, so each answer is a range, and the real meter will also add time fare in traffic. This is why this page has no calculator: the rules on the page are not complete enough to compute one honest number.

If your ride crosses the city limits, add 20% of the metered fare; the page says the late-night and outside-city surcharges together reach up to 60% for a sedan.
International taxi, brand taxis and other types
Under the heading "International taxi fares" the page says the metered fare is the same as a sedan, SUV, van or deluxe taxi, and then lists "International passengers: 20% surcharge". It adds that, for sedans, the international surcharge (20%), the late-night surcharge (20–40%) and the outside-city surcharge (20%) can total up to 60%. The page does not define "international" further, so ask the driver or the dispatcher before you ride.
