DMZ tour cost: the Paju DMZ Peace Tour fare table
| Visitor | Option | Total | Facility fee | Shuttle lift | Shuttle bus |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adult | Monorail | 12,200 | 5,000 | 3,000 | 4,200 |
| On foot | 9,200 | 5,000 | - | 4,200 | |
| Child or teen (elementary to high school students) | Monorail | 9,500 | 3,300 | 2,500 | 3,700 |
| On foot | 7,000 | 3,300 | - | 3,700 | |
| Senior (age 65 and over) | Monorail | 7,700 | 2,500 | 1,500 | 3,700 |
| On foot | 6,200 | 2,500 | - | 3,700 |
- Korea Tourism Organization agrees: its 3rd Tunnel page lists the monorail at ₩12,200 (adult), ₩9,500 (teenagers and children) and on foot at ₩9,200 and ₩7,000, the same totals.
- Group fares apply to 30 or more people of the same party who bring (or use) their own bus: adult ₩4,000, child or teen ₩2,500, senior ₩2,000, on foot only. A guide on foot is ₩4,200 (facility fee waived).
- What the totals add up to: adult monorail ₩5,000 + ₩3,000 + ₩4,200 = ₩12,200 (derived arithmetic).
- A notice dated 2026-09-23 on the same site is titled "3rd Tunnel shuttle lift service resumed and additional payment (from 9.29.)". Its body could not be read here, so confirm the lift charge when you buy.
Foreigners and discounts
The official page states that, under the Paju tourism facility ordinance, foreigners are not eligible for the fee reductions. The senior price above includes a 50% cut of the facility fee (₩5,000 to ₩2,500, derived), so whether a foreign senior pays the senior price or the adult price is not settled by the page: ask at the Imjingak ticket office. The reduction list the page prints is mostly for Korean residents and certificate holders; its list also includes children aged 6 and under accompanied by a guardian (childcare groups excepted) in the full-exemption rows, but the flattened table does not make the row grouping fully clear, so confirm at the ticket office.
ID, age limits and rules
- ID: everyone must carry ID. For foreigners the page lists passport, alien registration card or US forces ID. Copies, screenshots and photos of ID, and a passport past its stay period, are not accepted. Minors may enter with an adult guardian.
- Everyone must be present: tickets are sold only to people who have actually arrived at Imjingak, and the whole party must arrive first.
- Age and health: no minimum age is printed. The page says elderly visitors, people with high or low blood pressure, frail people, people with breathing difficulty and people who have been drinking may be refused entry to the tunnel, and that steep slopes and tight spaces may limit entry for wheelchair users or visitors who cannot walk easily.
- Closed: every Monday, weekday public holidays, and Seollal and Chuseok day (the holiday periods around them run normally).
- Sales window: on-site sales and reserved-ticket issue run 09:00 to 14:30 and often sell out early.
- No photography: photos and video, including drones, are banned throughout the tour course.
- Other rules: no tour guide is provided (groups must bring their own); stay on designated roads because the surrounding land is unconfirmed minefield; no alcohol or weapons; the tour can be cancelled without notice for emergencies or weather.
Shuttle times and how to book
Course A takes about 3 hours: Imjingak, 3rd Tunnel, Dora Observatory, Tongilchon, Imjingak. If the monorail breaks down the tour switches to walking.
The city's booking steps are: choose individual real-time booking on the DMZ Peace Tour site, pick the date, course and departure, enter the booker's details, enter each visitor's details (nationality can be filled in as a batch), confirm and pay (details cannot be edited after payment), then check or cancel the booking. The site notes that its English service is "being prepared".

Uses the individual fare table only. It does not include group fares, reductions, parking at Imjingak (₩1,000 to ₩5,000 by vehicle size on the VisitKorea page), or the lift charge notice that could not be read.
Other DMZ visits
Panmunjeom (the Joint Security Area) is a different programme. The Korea Tourism Organization page says individual tours are not permitted, tours must be arranged in advance through a tour operator designated by the United Nations Command, and valid ID such as a passport or alien registration card is required. It lists the fee as free, the programme site as www.panmuntour.go.kr and the phone as +82-1588-8889; its operating-days line reads Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Check the programme site before planning.
