F-6 marriage visa income requirement: the inviter's minimum income by household size, exemptions and a checker
Numbers checked against the official source on 2026-10-19
For a marriage-based visa (F-6), the Korean spouse who invites the foreigner must have earned at least a set amount in the past year, before tax, and the amount depends on household size. The government's Easy Law page prints it as KRW 25,195,752 for a 2-person household, up to KRW 57,090,900 for 7 people, with KRW 5,755,188 added per extra person from the 8th. The Easy Law page says its information is written as of 15 September 2026, but the table itself does not name the notice year; the Ministry of Justice resets the figure every year by notice (the latest post is notice 2025-534 of 26 December 2025, whose amounts are in an attachment we did not open), so check it (or ask 1345) before you rely on these numbers.
Read on 2026-10-19 from the Easy to Find, Practical Law page "결혼에 따른 체류자격" (Marriage Immigrants, status of sojourn; Ministry of Government Legislation; the page states "이 정보는 2026년 9월 15일 기준으로 작성된 것입니다" (written as of 15 September 2026); no notice number printed beside the table) and the Immigration Act Enforcement Rule Article 9-5 as shown on the National Law Information Center ("[시행 2026. 9. 15.] [법무부령 제1125호, 2026. 9. 15., 일부개정]"). The Ministry of Justice posted a notice numbered 2025-534 on 2025-12-26 on this subject; its figures are in a PDF we did not download, so we cannot say the table below matches it. Not legal advice; confirm with immigration (1345).
The income rule
- Whose income: the person who invites the foreigner for marriage and cohabitation (the "inviter").
- Which period: the past 1 year, counted back from the visa application date.
- What counts: annual income before tax. The page does not define the household or list income types; the detailed rules are in the Ministry's notice.
- Legal basis: Enforcement Rule Article 9-5(1) item 4 lets the consul check whether the inviter meets the income requirement that the Minister of Justice sets and announces every year, taking the standard median income under the National Basic Living Security Act into account.
Income requirement by household size
| Household size | Minimum income (KRW) |
|---|---|
| 2 people | 25,195,752 |
| 3 people | 32,154,216 |
| 4 people | 38,968,428 |
| 5 people | 45,340,314 |
| 6 people | 51,335,712 |
| 7 people | 57,090,900 |
| 8 people or more | add KRW 5,755,188 for each extra person |
Income checker
Enter the household size and the inviter's income for the past year. The checker compares the income with the table above and, for 8 or more people, adds KRW 5,755,188 per person beyond 7 (a sum we calculate from the printed rule). It does not apply the exemptions below, the Korean-language requirement, the housing requirement or any other check the consul may make.
When the income test can be waived
The Easy Law page lists these cases in which the income requirement is not examined:
- The inviter and the foreign spouse have a child born to them;
- They married (a common-law relationship does not count) and lived together abroad for at least 1 year, so the inviter could not have earned income in Korea in the last year;
- Any other case where the Minister of Justice specially recognises that the requirement should be waived.
Enforcement Rule Article 9-5(1) allows the examination of some items to be waived in cases the Minister announces, "such as" a child born between the inviter and the foreign spouse.
Where the pages differ
| Item | What each says | What we show |
|---|---|---|
| Which year's figures | The Enforcement Rule says the Minister sets the income requirement "every year". The Easy Law page is written as of 15 September 2026, but its table names no notice year. | We show the Easy Law table as printed, flag the missing year, and tell you to check the current Ministry notice. |
| Ministry notice | A notice no. 2025-534 was posted 2025-12-26; its content is in a PDF. | This page does not state that the table equals it. |
Other things the consul may check (relationship, housing, Korean ability of the applicant, criminal history) are listed in Rule Article 9-5; fees are on the immigration fee page, and what happens after arrival is on alien registration. This page summarises public texts and is not legal advice.
